Dear Dr. Fante:
When I met you I asked how many surgeries you had done. You told me thousands. The procedure that you did on me was much more than removing excess tissue of the upper eyelids. I feel that my surgery was unique and I'd like you to hear my story. In 2006, my 20 year old son was tragically killed in a dirt bike accident. Following his passing, my life changed drastically. It felt like I cried non stop for a couple of years. I lost a huge part of myself when I lost my son.
The saying is true, "the eyes are the windows of the soul". Prior to the surgery, when I looked in the mirror I saw that my eyes still had such sadness from the loss of my child. And the heaviness represented the heaviness of my grief. Clearly my eyes showed my pain.
It has now been about a year since I have started to feel joy and happiness and even a little bit more like my old self. My goal with surgery was that I wanted to look in the mirror and get back a reflection of the healing that has taken place in my life. I wanted an image that would portray a sparkle again, similar to my old self.
Since the surgery, I am not reminded of the pain when I look in the mirror anymore. You, without knowing any of the above, have given me my old eyes back... a gift I will always be grateful to you for.
