Palmer Lake, Colorado
Greg Long is looking forward to his trip to Denali as the culmination of his most recent mid-life crisis. His last was in 1990 and involved a 5 month thru-hike of the 2140 mile Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine, after which he moved to Colorado from Boston in 1991.
Once in Colorado, Greg progressed from hiking and backpacking to mountaineering. He has tackled 35 of Colorado's 14,000 foot peaks, Mt. Ranier in Washington, and several high altitude climbs in South America - most recently reaching 20,750' on 20,900' Ausangate in Peru before being turned back by weather. He hopes to count Denali as his fourth of the Seven Summits, already having tackled Kilimanjaro (Africa), Elbrus (Europe), and Aconcagua (S.America). He is a trip leader and mountaineering instructor for the Colorado Mountain Club.
Greg resigned his position as Director of Education at the Denver Children's Home last summer, ending 17 years as a Special Education Teacher and Administrator in a variety of day and residential programs for troubled teens in Massachusetts and Colorado. After returning from Alaska, he is starting his own Adventure Travel company.
Greg is appreciative of his family's support in all his crises and adventures, and would like to say a big, "Hello," to all his former students at DCH.
